Religious Studies Specification A (Christianity, Buddhism and the Religious, Philosophical and Ethical Themes)
Exams: 2 exam papers of 1 hour 45 minutes each
Lessons: 72 x 1 hour lessons.
This GCSE requires a love of pondering the big questions in life and an interest in other people and cultures. There will definitely be viewpoints and ideas that you disagree with. If there isn’t natural disagreement within the group I will play devil’s advocate and take the dark side…
Our first unit of study will be all Christianity. We will look at its roots and history, the core beliefs that are shared by the majority of Christians and the common practices of Christians today. We will look at a range of Christian denominations from Roman Catholicism to Anglicanism and Quakerism.
Our second unit of study will be all about Buddhism. We will look at its roots and history, the core beliefs that are shared by the majority of Buddhists and the common practices of Buddhists today. We will look at a range of Buddhist schools including a range of Theravada and Mahayana schools.
The second half of the course is made up of four thematic studies. These take in ideas from a range of religions including, but not exclusive to, Christianity and Buddhism.
