This course explores the United Kingdom through its geography, people, history and mythology. We will develop map skills, zoom in on each of the four countries of the UK and use data from the Census to get an idea of what the people of the UK are like.

Explore the Roman world through the lens of some of its most influential leaders. From Augustus, the first Emperor, to Constantine, its last, we will learn about some pretty colourful characters. Nero is the famous mum-murdering despot who fiddled whilst Rome burnt – but was he as bad as they say? Trajan ruled over the Roman Empire at its largest, but did he do it for the fame, the money or just because he was bored? Constantine I was the first Christian Emperor, but why did he take the leap of faith? Justinian’s wife Theodora was at least as famous as he was, but could he survive the scandal attached to her? Join me on a tour through Russia – the largest country on Earth. This course will take you from the megacity of Moscow, over the Ural Mountains down into the seemingly-unending taiga forests. From there we’ll dive into Lake Baikal, the deepest freshwater lake on Erath, where fish made from mostly oil mix with the only freshwater seals in existence. We’ll trek the wilds of Siberia in search of wild animals and end in Kalmykia, the only predominantly Buddhist society in Europe.

This course uses the ‘Big Six’ world religions (the six most popular religions in the world today) to build understanding of religious belief and practice in contemporary Britain. We will also use each religion to understand world geography as we see the spread of each religion from its birthplace to the UK and world history from the time of Abraham (Ibraheem), the Hijrah, the reign of Asoka in India and the life of Guru Nanak amongst other massive world history events.
